Capital City Jedi Knights “Costume Requirements”

Kylo Ren Costume Standard

Helmet:
Helmet is painted gunmetal satin black. Should be weathered to appear as close to movie as possible. (Black Series is mostly acceptable right out of the box.)
Helmet has 5 chrome or silver ridges that run around eye opening and have a pattern of ridges over the upper cheek area.
Wearer’s eyes and face are blacked out.
Helmet is proportional to the wearer.

Capelet and hood:
Made from black basketweave, monk’s cloth or similar visually textured material. The weave is no more than 8 squares per inch and no less than 3 squares per inch.
Cape, cowl, hood and surcoat must be made from the same material.
Hood should be a rounded pattern.
Cowl is gathered thickly around the neck and shoulders.
Cape is tapered in the back reaching the wearer’s belt but does not extend below the knees.
Edges of the cape are frayed.
Hood has no visible seam along the top of the hood.
Trooping standard:
Hood is worn up.
Hood is covered in coating that makes material ‘shiny’ as seen in the movie.

Surcoat:
Made from black basketweave, monk’s cloth or similar visually textured material. The weave is no more than 8 squares per inch and no less than 3 squares per inch.
Surcoat is made from same material as cape, cowl and hood.
Sleeveless and floor length, but allowed 3-4” clearance due to movement in fight choreography.
Skirt is constructed of four panels, open in front, back, left and right sides.
Single closed seam runs down the center of the front and back of the costume.
The shoulders do not have seams.
Trooping standard:
Surcoat is covered in coating that makes material ‘shiny’ as seen in the movie.

Under tunic:
Made from matte black cotton with consideration to body heat and movement.
Worn beneath the surcoat and goes to mid thigh or knee level.
Trooping standard:
Constructed of tight fitting horizontal pleats.

Sleeved shirt:
Sleeves are made from matte black cotton material.
Worn beneath undertunic. Tunic (above) and sleeves may be a single unit.
Constructed with approximately 35 pleats, adjusted for wearer’s size.
Sleeves are mostly form fitting but must be loose to allow for movement. Sleeves should extend past wrist and terminate near thumb joint and mid-hand.
A zipper runs from the base of the armpit and ends at the thumb down the inside seam of the sleeve. Zipper end is palm-side rather than armpit-side.
Trooping standard:
Sleeves are made from heavyweight cotton or canvas.

Neck seal/balaclava:
Balaclava covers exposed neck/ears and skin so when hood is down for combat, no skin should show.
Neck seal is composed of horizontally stacked leather or leather like material.
Worn beneath the inner tunic and comes to jaw.
Closes in back of wearer’s neck.

Pants:
Black denim of regular fit.
Trooping standard:
Fabric is covered in coating that makes material ‘shiny’ as seen in the movie.

Gloves:
Form fitting black gloves with grip on inner palm to grasp saber firmly.
Gloves have no straps or buckles.
Trooping standard:
Glove material is leather or leather like.

Boots:
Made of leather or leather-like material.
Should be circular toe and boots have a shine on them.
Boots have 4 vertical strips running up the front and 4 circular straps running around the circumference – 2 at the top and 2 towards the angle. Fastened by rectangular buckle.
Boot sole should have solid grip and texture for safety purposes.

Belt:
Made of leather or leather like material. Approximately 4.5” wide with ½ inch strip at top. This is relative to the weaer.
Worn atop surcoat and closures in back concealed beneath capelet.
Buckle in center carries movie detail and is glossy. 3D prints are allowed.
Saber clip in black Is on the right hip.

Lightsaber:
A red bladed lightsaber, combat approved, is required.
Trooping standard:
While sabers with a proper blade color is accepted, a character specific flamerge saber is encouraged.
‘Shiny’ saber metal is painted and dulled to be more screen specific.
If sound-capable, loading Kylo soundfonts is encouraged.
